Metal bonding is a process in which structural adhesives are primarily used to bond thin material lap joints, replacing rivets or spot welds that are commonly used in these applications. Avcorp's metal bonding process uses adhesives, which eliminates the need for drilling holes and is ideal for bonding thin metal sheets to honeycomb core material. Our metal bonding adhesives produce joints with more strength and rigidity and allows the use of thinner gauge materials. Metal bonding adhesives also eliminate gaps, bulges, and protruding fasteners on aircraft exterior surfaces, thereby reducing drag forces on the aircraft. As an aircraft design consideration, metal bonding via adhesives is an important factor in facilitating sonic dampening and extending the fatigue life of aircraft components.

Avcorp's metal bonding facilities and equipment are some of the most up-to-date in the industry featuring 3-metal bonding autoclaves that can handle:
- working dimensions inside from 52" to 96" Diameter x 14' to 29' Long
- working temperature ranges from 250° F to 600° F
- working pressure from 20 PSI to 300 PSI
- controlled by either Seimens Controller or Microcon Mini Computer - both fully programmable with recorders for pressure, vacuum port temperatures, and vessel temperatures

An 8000 sq.ft. Clean Room for metal bonding Lay-ups with humidity, temperature, and dust control is also part of the metal bonding facility. Avcorp's metal bonding facilities can undertake full-rate manufacturing processes, such as the metal bonding of subassemblies for Sovereign Wing Boxes, which are critical to the airworthiness of an aircraft. |
